So, I'm back... spent the past couple of days in training in St. Charles, IL. That place is a diet killer, but I did well, got one small workout in, tried to not eat all the junk food there (but it taste so good). I did end up gaining a pound out there but overall I call it a win.
So back to the workout in the morning!!! Next stop KC this weekend for a wedding, I will do my best to keep up the workouts through this weekend as well. After that I don't think I have any excuses till the end of the program.
Till next time
The new life with all sorts of new twists and turns. Travels and adventures with each new day.

With the Good comes the Bad
So I guess when you have good days there will be some bad days as well. I don't think today was totally horrible, I just had a night that could have been better. Overall I was able to stay under 2500 calories for the day but most of them came at dinner and after. The good part is that I had a great workout this morning with the Pure Cardio and Cardio Abs!!!! Now with that said the rest of the day was pretty good I would say...
After watch the cats lose, now they did start to play better but not much solace there, we headed out for some gift certificate shopping. I ended up being able to get a couple of new pairs of pants (Pure Black and Charcoal Grey)!!! Then a trip to DSW where a new pair ofwork shoes was the goal, call that a success and as an added bonus of a new pair of warm boots to walk to work. I do feel a little bad about these as we used part of Lisa's GC's. Hahaha... I will repay her at some point with some new shoes, I promise.
Well we now have the little man off to sleep and I need to help clean up the house as we have some great football to watch tomorrow. As well as hopefully another great workout.

Rest Day
So I find that the rest days are the hardest days to stay focused. I almost feel guilty on anything I eat, but I really shouldn't, should I? I did manage to be good today, so I feel that this is a win. Only 1 fajita for dinner, while it was pretty full it was full with the chicken and veggies, light on the fixin's. My biggest win was avoiding that last piece of pecan pie sitting on the counter. Instead to cure my sweet tooth, I used my almondy chocolate granola that I made with the recipe from the Vitamix!!!! The Vitamix might be the coolest toy, but I will save more blogging about the Vitamix for a different day (the cookbook is amazing).
Well it was a short night but the morning is calling with the Pure Cardio followed by the Cardio Abs video, what a way to start a Saturday!!!! Stay Strong

One Third Done!!!
Today marked the end of week three of the insanity program (technically tomorrow is the last day but it is the rest day). A total of 18 potential workouts and I have hit 17 of them... pretty good in my opinion. I did decide to celebrate and help my sweet tooth out with another piece of pecan pie. It was worth it, now that the pie is gone. I am sure I will find little ways to cure my sweet tooth every now and then (we all need some every now and then).
The best part of the program now is that people are noticing changes. Even though I can't see them, it does motivate me to continue and press through even more!!!! And with the trip to FL in May, that is exactly what I need.
Well off to bed, I get an extra hour of sleep with the rest day.

What a day!!
So, Rhett didn't want to go to bed last night, but once he did fall asleep he slept great. Just not much sleep to get up and workout. So the work out shifted to this evening, and it was a great workout!!! Also had a good day watching what I ate, a couple of weeks like this and it should become second nature. At least I hope so ;-)
But that is not really the great news, what is the great news you ask. We have finalized our 5 year anniversary plans. So you might think this is crazy but it's us... we will start by driving up to Madison, WI to visit with some friends Friday night and Saturday, Sunday we will run the Madison Half Marathon, for those keeping track that will be the 7th state checked off the list. Afterwards we will drive to Milwaukee where we will catch a flight to FL. Yes we are going to take a week and spend on Marco Island, FL!!! Call it a 5 year anniversary trip or our honeymoon, either way we are super excited. Even for the half marathon!!!
I guess this means I have a new set of goals that I will need to target. Continue and finish the Insanity program strong. That will give me a good base to start training for the half. And for the half marathon, I know I had some time goals in the past that I didn't hit and that is ok. This goal will be to run it like my first 2, side by side with my wife!!! Those were really fun runs and days, I can't wait to do it again!!!
Well that is it for today, time to go rest and get up for Cardio Plyometrics tomorrow morning. Not sure how that is going to work, two insanity workouts in less than 12 hours...

Day 2 - Another Start
So the day started nice and early (like with any new baby in the family) but this was to workout. The "Cardio Recovery" workout. Any time that the disk states that it is a recovery workout you think that it might be easy, oh no, not in the iinsanity program. Squats, Lunges, Planks, etc... not to mention holding them for minutes. Painful, to say the least. But made it through and ready to face the rest of the day.
What was the new part of the day, well it is not totally new, back to tracking the calories, carbs, fat, protein, and fiber in all the foods I ate. So I made a decision to do this, the hardest part is being completely honest with what you eat. If you do this the only way to be successful is to be totally honest and not cheat about what you eat. I tell you that it really makes you think about what you eat. There are tons of treats around the office but when you start tracking the calories and such it really makes you think about eating that fun size butterfirngers.
How did I do day 1 back at the counting game? 2400 Calories today, really hurt by my sweet tooth at the end of the day. That piece of pecan pie added 500 calories, but it did taste really really good.
Well that is it for today, the little one is not feeling good and I will hit the alarm at 5AM for Cardio Power and Resistance. Here's to the new year!

The Start
So, I am now 2.5 weeks into the insanity program. For those who don't know what the insanity program is, well it lives up to it's name. It's a 9 week program that consists of 30 to 45 min workouts where all you do is move, max interval training. This has been the hardest workouts I have been part of in a very long time.
But since this is my first post I will give a little background, a few years ago (Nov 2007) I got on a scale andit read 317 lbs... WOW... when did I get that big... and on top of that my father and my wife's father announced they each had type 2 diabetes and if I didn't change my ways I would be right there. Married, no kids and with diabetes. At that point, we decided that we would change, we started eatting better and joined the gym. It worked, soon I was down 30 lbs by tracking my food intake and working out. Back under 300 and feeling better. But still not good enough.
Then came round two of the work out/weight loss program, RUNNING. Aug of 2009 we were slated to run our first half marathon, that's right a 280 lb man running 13.1 miles. During training my wife and I really focused on our diet again as well. By the time of the marathon I had dropped to 240 lbs. Completed the Chicago Rock and Roll Half Marathon and then I was addicited. We ran and ran and ran, well I kept running and running and running. At the begining of 2010 we found out that we were expecting our first child. So my wife ran the first half marathon of 2010 (January) down in Phoenix, then she took it easy for a while I ran. I ended up running an additonal 5 Half Marathons in 2010 taking the total to 6 in one calendar year. Kansas City Rock the Parkway in March, May came the Indy Mini Marathon, Re-ran the Chicago Rock and Roll Half in August. Right after our son was born came the Des Moines Half in October, and finally the Las Vegas Half Marathon in December. New goal, now with 7 total half marathons run in 6 differnt states, time to try to run a half marathon in every state. I did learn one thing, I shouldn't do 6 in one year. So I think I will try to cut that back to 2 or 3 each year with some other fun workout programs thrown in.
So back to present day, with my weight back up to 255, I have settled on the the Insanity program over the next 9 weeks to get some fun workouts in before the running starts back up. My one struggle is back on my diet, I have a nasty sweet tooth and a mind for bar food (including pizza). So my focus is really to get back on the diet, veggies and protiens. Maybe back to calorie, carb, fiber, fat counting, that really worked for me. I will also talk more about each workout I do, as well as letting you know what run I am preparing for, so stay tuned for more. That's my start...
